Our church has a yearly Christmas program of some sort featuring our children. However, our children's minister recently decided it was in her best interest to step down in her role at the church (along with her husband) and begin worshipping with her teenage son who attends another congregation. Although we are supportive of her and love her tremendously, she will be dearly missed. And, our children were put in a bit of a "pickle" when it came to the decision~what are we going to do for our Christmas program this year? The kids have always looked forward to this event and asked about it numerous times. A few of our church ladies thought it would be a great idea to let the kids showcase their talents at a talent show--the only condition being that the performance was Christmas-y.
I began working with the preschool and kindergarten aged children on singing some fun Christmas songs. They did an incredible job and looked precious up there singing.
We had Christmas acts, scripture readings, drawings and even a Taekwondo performance.
We even had a piano playing Rudolph there.
I truly have no axes to grind when it comes to my Church of Christ heritage, but I have been a part of a number of different congregations who did not believe in the use of instrumental music at all in the church building (as is common with our belief system). In fact, Matt and I worked with a church that had it written in the property deed that no instrument could be brought into that church, and they wouldn't even play instrumental music for a wedding ceremony. Although I love and appreciate Acapella music, I believe instruments and the talent it takes to play such, is a God given gift. Hearing Karson play "Amazing Grace" on her school recorder and praise God that way was just beautiful. I'm thankful our church leaders allow members to make their own unique contribution to God's mission and allow us (the members) to use the particular gifts God's spirit has given us.

We have a talented group of young singers.
My sister put together a fun little skit involving Wise Men and their trip to see Baby Jesus.
Our precious group of youngsters praising God. I have to say that the Talent Showcase was somewhat intimidating to us adult-folk. We have some ultra-talented young people in our number. This might easily become a new yearly tradition at our church.

How precious!!! How precious!
