I've noticed lately that my blog posts are dwindling down. I've only done one per month. I guess that's better than NONE per month. Yesterday was bittersweet. I felt like Rachel on F.R.I.E.N.D.S. with the quote "it's the end of an ERA!" In a few short months, my son Isaac will start his 6th grade and final year at Plano. I can hardly believe it. I guess that's the problem with stacking your children on top of each other - eras end quickly. Karson will be in 8th grade, Isaac will be in 6th and Miles will be in 4th.I can honestly say that when you're in the thick of the school year, time doesn't seem like it moves fast (or it doesn't for me). I think you're accustomed to the routine and going through the motions, and before you know it, BAM, it's over. I didn't even process that yesterday was the last day of school, even though I knew it was and had planned to go to the boys classrooms for awards that afternoon. I forgot to take pictures that morning, like a dummy. I don't feel too bad because the boys don't really want them anyway. I was still in bed when Karson left for school so no pictures there. The entire week has felt strange.
AWARDS TIME:
Miles received awards in PE and Math, but the biggest reward was having Ms. Rather, who is our favorite teacher at Plano. Finger crossed he will have another wonderful year in 4th grade!
Middle School, well I don't know much about the day to day of middle school. Karson doesn't share much and I don't feel the sense of fellowship like the elementary school setting. Here's what I do know ~ Karson loved art class this quarter and came home with some cool projects which grace my mantel and refrigerator. She also got an award for straight A's. Yep, that's about it. Not much to report =). She's slowing turning into a middle schooler too. I recently read a facebook post from a friend (with kids in middle and high school) that said "Sunday and my children are out of their rooms. Wow." That sums up our life with K - she's a hermit and spends a lot time in solitude in her room. I remember being more "secluded" in middle school and know that disconnect is normal (just not easy). Eeeeeeek.
Isaac received an art award, PE award, Academic Team and A Honor Roll. Classroom video link here.
Isaac and his crew doing the DAB.
I'll just blame Memorial Day for throwing this entire week off. Matt and I did start the weekend off with a fun little trip down memory lane at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville at the I Love the 90's Concert. My neighbor, who was already going, got some free tickets and gave them to us. It was so much fun jamming with all the other 1970's babies to Young MC, Tone Loc, Coolio, All 4 One, Kid N Play and Salt N Peppa. They only played their hit songs and everyone was singing at the top of their lungs. It.Was.Awesome!
We spent Monday hanging out at the pool with friends and family. Last Sunday (our first time at the pool this season) our pool time was cut short because Isaac went down the slide and when he came up, got stung in the eye by a wasp. It's little stinger was stuck in his face, and I had to pull it out with my finger nail. He was in quite a bit of pain. We tried icing it when we got home, but the next morning (Monday) it was swollen. I would've kept him home but the school was doing their KPREP testing. I told him to ask the school nurse for an ice pack and do his best to keep ice on it all day. I called the school around lunchtime to check on him. We've got the best school secretary ever who peeked in on him at lunch and said he looked like he was doing well (and that she remembered him coming and getting ice twice that day).
On Tuesday morning he complained of an earache but seemed okay to go to school. By that afternoon, he was not doing good and had developed a fever, headache and chills. He facetimed me at work and was crying and really upset and wanted to know when I was coming home. We decided it was best for him to stay home from school on Wednesday and Thursday. I'm not entirely sure what happened - if he was sick or his symptoms were the result of the sting? It was not a fun way to end the school year that's for sure. He was well enough to go back to school on Friday and complete his testing. I'm not going to hold my breath that he did well with testing this year considering the circumstances =(.
| Saturday we hung out at Nolin Lake with the family. Isaac couldn't wait to go tubing. He spent most of the day tube hogging =). |
Miles has been doing a lot of golfing lately. He's getting ready for his tournament next Friday.
How in the world is it already JUNE?!?!
